Videos of the girls's first try at eating solids and new pics!

I have to start this blog entry off by saying.... I just love and adore my girls SO much and feel the need to tell you all ;)

A quick update before I give you a good laugh at me and trying to feed them solids!!

I had to take them again this last week to the pediatrician because just as soon as I got Kylie's allergy to formula sorted out then Caelyn started vomiting every time she ate. I put her back on 100% breastmilk and found it got much better, but it was still happening. She had developed reflux and for some reason it was much worse on the new formula. It's very strange that my girls are identical, but have completely different allergies and sensitivities and therefore require different forumlas. We've now found a formula that works better for Caelyn, but it didn't make the reflux go away completely so off to the Dr. we went! Reflux is very sad because it makes them cough, burn and have a hard time going to sleep. The Dr. gave us some meds for the acid, but also some thickener to add to her milk to help it stay down. So far the thickener is working well so we haven't used the acid neutralizer. I'm hoping not too as there's just something that doesn't feel right about messing with her stomach acid! I'm now having to pump out all of my milk and feed it to her with a bottle though because when she breastfeeds she brings up more milk then when I give it to her in a bottle with the thickener. The Dr. said the reflux should correct itself over the next few months so I'm hoping it does!

Even with all the problems with their food the girls are still growing well and are very healthy. Caelyn is now 5.4kg (approx 11 lbs 14oz) and Kylie 5.0kg (approx 11 lbs). They are now not only smiling, but laughing a bit too! It used to be that it was their toys that would really get them excited, but they are now starting to respond to us as well. We spend a lot of hours talking to them and enjoying their smiles and coos! As I said before, it's a huge time waster, but so much fun!!

The Dr. instructed us to start solids because that will also help Caelyn's reflux. His instruction was to feed them a little rice porridge in the evening and then wash it down with their milk. Well, I probably should have read up on it more before we tried it because our first try was a complete disaster. I've included the video so you can witness it yourself. The girls made the funniest faces when we put the rice cereal in their mouth and then screamed louder and louder because they just wanted their milk! Maybe some kids take to it easier, but we learned from our mistake and did it differently on the 2nd try. Take 2 (video also below) went much better. We gave them a little milk so they weren't so hungry before trying them on solids. They still managed to wear more than they ate, but at least there wasn't any screaming involved. We're still working at it a little each day and can't believe we're here already. The girls are growing up so fast and parts of you loves the new phases, but the other parts misses the little tiny babies they once were!

And now for the part you really care about... videos and pics :)
Love and miss you all!!
Happy Holidays!!

Update with New Weights and Pics

The girls went for a check up and injections again last week. We were given great news that the girls are very healthy and growing like crazy. Caelyn weighed 5.1kg (approx 11 lbs 4 oz) and Kylie 4.6kg (approx 10 lbs and 2 oz). The actual injections were very sad because they cried like crazy and then had a rough day afterwards, but they've recovered now and are back to their happy selves!

I'm still breast feeding, but only managing to give them around 60-70% breast milk. I've tried every pill and taken ever piece of advice on how to increase my milk supply, but I can't seem to get it any higher than it is now. This cow is officially maxed out :) I'm happy to report though that we FINALLY found a formula that Kylie can tolerate.. YAY! No more diarrhea and horrible cramps.

I'll try and get another video of Caelyn and Kylie so you can see how much they are coo'ing and smiling. It's sooo adorable. They are really starting recognize people's faces and voices now and are especially fascinated with each other. They are grabbing at things and starting to try and put them in their mouth. They are constantly sucking on their dummies or their fists :)

We're starting to work on sleep training, but so far they are stuck in the routine of waking up after only 4 hrs so at at 4am. We've had a few nights where they go a bit longer, but then they go back to 4am again the next night. We're hoping they start to stretch themselves so we can avoid the "letting them cry it out" stage, but I'm not sure we'll be so lucky. Luckily they're still too young and dont weigh enough yet so I don't have to cross that bridge just yet! I know crying hurts me more than them, but still... :)

They've been keeping me so busy that I've been a bit slack on taking pictures. Here are a few that I've managed to get. They have so many cute outfits thanks to all the people who've been so generous. I'm hoping to get pics of them to show you, but it never fails that before I snap the photo one of them makes a mess of the outfit and needs to be changed. It's like they know what I'm wanting and are secretly laughing as they make it difficult for me! Hee hee!!

All in all we are all doing well and coping better than I expected. Now I just want to find time to see and talk to my friends and family more because I miss you!!

Miss and love you all tons!!
Big hugs from us all!!! xoxo

WOW! Now they are growing fast!!

I'm happy to report that the girls are doing really well! In the last couple of weeks they've really started to grow and develop and it's so fun to watch. I took them for their vaccinations a week ago and couldn't believe how much they weighted. Caelyn was 4.2kg/56cm long and Kylie was 3.85kg/53cm long!

About 3 weeks ago they went through a big growth spurt and starting screaming on the breast because my milk wasn't enough. We were then forced to start topping them up with some formula to make up the difference. I dont know if it's the formula or just that they are drinking so much more milk, but they have really started to grow so fast now that I can see the difference every day.

The only problem we've been having is that Kylie seems to be sensitive to formula because she started having really bad diarrhea and cramps :( We currently have her on 100% breastmilk which is working, but I dont have enough milk to continue that for very long. We're going to have to start experimenting with different formulas to see if we can find one that she can tolerate. I'm not sure what it is in the formula she's reacting to, but if I had to guess it's the milk and lactose. We've thought of trying soy formula, but I'm more allergic to soy than I am to dairy so I'm nervous to put her on it. If any of you have been through this and have any advice.. I'd love to hear it please!!

I'm going to try to take more videos of the girls because they are so darn cute right now. They are both smiling so much and starting to talk. I often lay them on their play mat together and they talk to each other...it's amazing! They aren't sleeping much during the days now so they are keeping me extremely busy. It's a lot of fun and they are very good babies, but two is definitely a handful :)

I've been very bad about taking pictures since my Mom left, but here's a couple!

Caelyn enjoying being naked on the blanket my Mom made for her!

Andy feeding his girls :)

Out to lunch on my Mom's last day here!

Kylie asleep in aunty Shaz's hand!

Caelyn watching her sister! We love being swaddled so thank you to everyone who sent us the nice soft blankets :)

It's amazing they still take the breast when you see how happy they are with a bottle in their mouth :)

Chillin' on the couch!

Check out my new gangster pose (hee hee). Both girls are always putting their fist to their face and leaning on it. It's so adorable :)

All smiles!!
