Videos of the girls's first try at eating solids and new pics!
I have to start this blog entry off by saying.... I just love and adore my girls SO much and feel the need to tell you all ;)
A quick update before I give you a good laugh at me and trying to feed them solids!!
I had to take them again this last week to the pediatrician because just as soon as I got Kylie's allergy to formula sorted out then Caelyn started vomiting every time she ate. I put her back on 100% breastmilk and found it got much better, but it was still happening. She had developed reflux and for some reason it was much worse on the new formula. It's very strange that my girls are identical, but have completely different allergies and sensitivities and therefore require different forumlas. We've now found a formula that works better for Caelyn, but it didn't make the reflux go away completely so off to the Dr. we went! Reflux is very sad because it makes them cough, burn and have a hard time going to sleep. The Dr. gave us some meds for the acid, but also some thickener to add to her milk to help it stay down. So far the thickener is working well so we haven't used the acid neutralizer. I'm hoping not too as there's just something that doesn't feel right about messing with her stomach acid! I'm now having to pump out all of my milk and feed it to her with a bottle though because when she breastfeeds she brings up more milk then when I give it to her in a bottle with the thickener. The Dr. said the reflux should correct itself over the next few months so I'm hoping it does!
Even with all the problems with their food the girls are still growing well and are very healthy. Caelyn is now 5.4kg (approx 11 lbs 14oz) and Kylie 5.0kg (approx 11 lbs). They are now not only smiling, but laughing a bit too! It used to be that it was their toys that would really get them excited, but they are now starting to respond to us as well. We spend a lot of hours talking to them and enjoying their smiles and coos! As I said before, it's a huge time waster, but so much fun!!
The Dr. instructed us to start solids because that will also help Caelyn's reflux. His instruction was to feed them a little rice porridge in the evening and then wash it down with their milk. Well, I probably should have read up on it more before we tried it because our first try was a complete disaster. I've included the video so you can witness it yourself. The girls made the funniest faces when we put the rice cereal in their mouth and then screamed louder and louder because they just wanted their milk! Maybe some kids take to it easier, but we learned from our mistake and did it differently on the 2nd try. Take 2 (video also below) went much better. We gave them a little milk so they weren't so hungry before trying them on solids. They still managed to wear more than they ate, but at least there wasn't any screaming involved. We're still working at it a little each day and can't believe we're here already. The girls are growing up so fast and parts of you loves the new phases, but the other parts misses the little tiny babies they once were!
And now for the part you really care about... videos and pics :)
Love and miss you all!!
Happy Holidays!!
